Occupational Therapy

Helping the Elderly Live Each Day to the Fullest!

Occupational therapy is a rehabilitative medical care service for patients with psychological, developmental, emotional or physical impairments. Occupational therapists work with the elderly to improve their ability to perform and participate in daily activities.

Poor balance and coordination, confusion, partial or full loss of vision or hearing are only some of the struggles that elderly patients live with day-to-day. The objectives of OT is increasing mobility, independence and active participation, working around those impairments so elderly patients can enjoy participating in everyday activities.

At AHP we offer a wide range of occupational therapy advice, strategies and support to the elderly including:

  • Assessing a resident’s ability to perform daily activities (e.g. showering, eating and toileting)
  • The prescription of equipment and aids to assist with certain functions
  • Assessment and management of pressure care and cognitive abilities
  • Therapies for upper limbs, including splinting
  • Strategic advice for energy conservation

Our holistic approach enables us to understandthe complex medical needs and care of residents so as to assist them with setting goals for rehabilitation after an admittance to a healthcare facility.

We are skilled at supporting seniors with cognitive, visual, emotional and mobility disorders with roadmaps prescribed to help them lead independent lives. By working with us you can be sure that your seniors will receive the best occupational therapy support they need to live as independently as possible, keeping them active, well and happy at the same time!

The AHP Difference

Walter de Ruyter

The management of mobility and amelioration of pain through massage and movement is an essential part of ensuring the wellbeing of our residents. Working in partnership with Australian Health Professionals has changed the way we use 4B funding for the better physical and mental health of residents, while reducing the risk of injury to staff. It is a pleasure to recommend Australian Health Professionals who work collaboratively with staff or ensure excellent care and revenue optimization.

We have partnered with Australian Health Professionals for a range of permanent and temporary recruitment assignments; particularly those which are hard to fill or critical to our organisation.

We have found Anne and the team very responsive, flexible, customer centric and committed to sourcing in line with our brief. When we find it challenging to source, we do look to AHP to provide support with candidate acquisition.

Our physiotherapy program was implemented by AHP in 2015. Our residents have been given the opportunity to improve their mobility and well-being and equally importantly to learn that physio and activities programs are fun. The improvement in the activity levels of our residents has been fantastic. Another positive aspect of employing AHP is their knowledge of the ACFI system and how physiotherapy services can contribute to an increase in the revenue of an aged care service. Marco Polo is a strong supporter of AHP - as evidenced by the fact that we now have 5 full time allied health staff working across our two facilities - a resource our residents welcome because they feel better because of it.
